The Collection: Corona Four
In the series "The Collection", http://maschinengeschrieben.blogspot.com/'s typewriters get presented. This Friday: The fifth edition with the Corona Four from 1930.

The small American: tired but good.
Not necessarily typical American: Smith & Corona produced in the last century, some typewriters which design I really like. The Corona Four, called so also because of the four-row keyboard, is one of them. In the keyboard body only 25 cm wide, the ribbon spools then stick out like frog eyes. Just sweet. The carriage itself can almost compete with real office machines at 32 cm. The keys are in a serif font, similar to the typewriter's font itself, labeled. The Americans really made many labelings: On the carriage itself, there's a scale with the character-
number attached three times, two directly on top of each other . However, I like the decal on the front of the frame with the golden words "L C Smith & Corona Typewriters Inc'
The flow of writing unfortunately will not arrive with the corona, after each line, the roller has to be turned with great caution, since a lack of setting how many lines should be left blank.
The keys need to be pressed rather strong, then also impact very loud on the paper. Since the ribbon is almost empty, I type here first on normal and then on carbon paper. Because, although the quality suffers, the "carbon cast" is better to read.
Overall a nice machine, very decorative, but lacks writing flow. Perhaps she can be slightly compared with the Hermes Baby. She will get a nwe - oh, the first mistake - new ribbon, though.

What a lovely typewriter! I would love one of these; my new obsession is old ultra-portables.

I have heard a bit about you from Georg, and I really like your blog. I hope I get to meet you at the next Swiss type-in :)

Yes, we should definitely all get together! Great idea with the carbon cast by the way.
